The St. Cecilia Singers of Rushden are one of the leading choirs in East Northamptonshire and were founded in 1943.  It is a mixed voice choir, and at present has approximately 50 members drawn from Rushden and the surrounding area.

Over the years the choir has had notable successes in music festivals, competitions and concerts, and has performed in many venues including the prestigious Royal Festival Hall and the Royal Albert Hall in London.

The Choir’s most prestigious performance was held in November 2003 to celebrate the Diamond Jubilee, when a Gala Concert was performed in Derngate Theatre, Northampton, with over 400 performers.

The latest prestigious performance was held in July 2006 at Peterborough Cathedral when the choir sang Vaughan William’s “A Sea Symphony” as part of a Celebration Concert of English music. The choir was honoured to be accompanied by the New Phoenix Orchestra with soloists David Wilson-Johnson (Bass-Baritone) and Rachel Bedford (Soprano).

It is the choir’s policy to perform music of all types to a high standard, particularly classical music, and where possible to engage and encourage young professional soloists and musicians.

If you haven’t been to our concerts before, why not come and enjoy them this season and join our ever-growing regular audience.

The Choir is also available to sing at weddings, for further information please contact the choir secretary.

The Choir is eager to attract more bass and tenor singers. It is essential that applicants have a good singing voice, and an ability to read music. Please contact the Secretary or Chairman for further details.

The St. Cecilia Singers are also pleased to be members of Making Music (National Federation of Music Societies) and are indebted to this organisation for their support over the years.
